The Mariner Cafe reopened March 5 at its new locale, 609 W. Washington St., #1, in the JC Penney Plaza.

Owners Ignacio Moreles and Reynaldo Garcia have renovated the space formerly occupied by Tarcisio’s. The floor is now all one level, done up in shades of aqua.

“We have a new floor and new paint,” said manager Marie Dickinson, “but we have the same great menu and the same prices.”

The Mariner still features a banquet room for larger gatherings. Garcia and Moreles preside over a new, larger kitchen.

Dickinson has been with the restaurant since 1999. Garcia was head cook when the cafe was owned by James Blake and his wife Laura Browning Blake, whose father owned Crazy Eric’s (later Gwennie’s). Garcia and Moreles took over ownership of the Mariner Cafe in 2006.

In addition to the owners and Dickinson, the staff still includes Stacey Duncan, Pedro Servano, Meghan Hueter, Jessica de Filippo, Emily Bennett, Carlie Lamb and Kourtney Mueller. Popular Tarcisio’s server Sharee Paris has joined the Mariner crew as well.

“We still have prime rib on Fridays,” Dickinson said, “along with all-you-want specials: oysters from 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and fish on Fridays.”

Homemade desserts are a key part of the Mariner menu.

“We encourage people to call ahead if they have a favorite dessert,” Dickinson said, “and we’ll try to have it on the menu the day they come in.”

“We also want people to let us know about any little problem,” she added.

“We want to do our best for them.”
