Peninsula College will offer a five-week training in the composites field for qualified candidates under the newly received AIR Washington Department of Labor three-year grant.

The purpose of the grant is to develop and deliver training in composites technology focusing specifically on the aerospace industry.

Training and classes also will help students develop knowledge, skills and abilities that are relevant and transferable to other sectors of the composites industry.

An open house is scheduled for 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, in Room 208 of the Lincoln Center, 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles.

Attendees will learn more about the course, meet instructors and have the opportunity to enroll in the training.

The next training begins Jan. 4 and ends Feb. 6. The class meets 5:30-8:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.

All classes take place at the Lincoln Center.

The classes will cover the basics of working with composite materials and related math and written skills to assist students in securing jobs with local and regional employers.

In addition to the five-week training, the college also will offer advanced composite technology certificate classes and an Advanced Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. All three levels of training will be focused on local and regional business needs. The training is free to qualified applicants 18 and older.

Interested parties should call Anne Grasteit at 681-5127 or e-mail agrasteit@pencol.edu.
