For framing manager Crystal Keene, getting hired at the new Michaels craft store in Sequim is right up her alley.

“I’ve been crafty my whole life,” Keene said.

A Sequim resident of eight years, Keene said she does a little bit of everything when it comes to crafts, from creating cosplay costumes to making jewelry to painting.

With the opening of the Michaels arts and crafts store, she no longer has to venture to Silverdale to buy her craft materials.

Located in the Sequim Village Marketplace at 1085 W. Washington St., Michaels offers a variety of inventory, including: fine arts supplies, home decor, seasonal decor, baking and party supplies, beads and jewelry, knitting and crochet, fabrics, papercraft, storage, floral, children’s arts and craft supplies, custom framing services and more.

Keene said the business held a soft opening leading up to the grand opening and ribbon cutting on May 20 and the reception from the community has exceeded expectations.

“We held a great preview night,” Keene said last week. “We had steady traffic all day.”

She said she enjoys working with her Michaels staff and said the business and its employees really strive to bring the company’s motto “make creativity happen” to its customers.

“Anything craft related, we have something for you,” Keene said.

In addition to the store’s arts and crafts inventory, it also offers monthly “Kid’s Club” classes from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays and other craft related classes throughout the month, Keene added.

She also said the store is available for community members who wish to teach arts and crafts related classes at the Sequim Michaels and for arts and crafts related birthday parties or private events.

The next “Kid’s Club” class will be from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, May 26, along with a MAKEbreak celebration slime class from 1-3 p.m. and a MAKE Tombow Hand lettering class from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29.
