For owners Frank and Laurna Leto, owning their own treasure chests has gone from a shared dream to a reality.

The Letos have lived in Sequim for decades and opened their new resale retail shop Treasure Chests in June at 680 W. Washington St., Suite B-101, selling eclectic jewelry, high-end collectibles and distinctive art.

Laurna said each cabinet in their store is considered a “treasure chest” for shoppers or “treasure hunters” as owners like to call them. The Letos came up with the name for their new store after it became a shared dream of theirs to open up a shop.

“We want it to be different,” Laurna said. “We are really hunting for things we know people might value.”

The Letos find most of their inventory from attending monthly auctions and yard sales and from estate items brought in from community members. Laurna said she spends a lot of time researching her finds so she is able to tell buyers about each of the items’ histories.

The store has a variety of inventory, including one of the Leto’s most prized possessions, a painting of Ingrid Bergman from the 1940s American war film “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Daniel Sayre Groesbeck, a Hollywood movie industry artist.

In addition to works of art, the store features a Warner Bros. cabinet, a variety of jewelry and gemstones, high-end collectibles, Native American Art, Laliques and more.

“You don’t know what people are going to like,” Laurna said.

The business is going to offer weekly “Take Over Time Out” opportunities for organizations in the community that want or need a space to fundraise in the back of the shop. Owners say organizations that want to fundraise will keep 100 percent of the profit.

“We hope it will support our business and other groups can make money off it,” Laurna said.

Frank is a 25-year retired Navy veteran and the Letos said they hope the “Take Over Time Out” opportunity could help support veterans or veterans groups in the area that want to fundraise.

Laurna said community members can bring in items of interest to the store as owners hope the business will expand in the future.

“We want it to continue to grow,” Laurna said.

Owners said they are willing to talk to customers about any of the inventory in their store and are grateful to open their business in Sequim.
