Peninsula College hosts financial aid workshop

On Sunday, Jan. 31, Peninsula College will host College Goal Sunday, a free event for students and parents interested in learning more about federal financial aid for college and scholarship opportunities for Washington students.

The event begins at 2 p.m. in the Science and Technology M Building at the college campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

The event is designed for students who will be enrolled in college during the 2010 fall quarter.

Peninsula College Financial Aid staff are scheduled to be available to help students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, the application required to apply for federal financial assistance for higher education.

The FAFSA is considered to be the gateway to accessing financial aid resources, such as grants, school loans and scholarships. Federal student loans offer many benefits not typically found in private loans, including low fixed-interest rates, income-based repayment plans, loan forgiveness and deferment options.

Students who attend and register on - a free scholarship clearinghouse for Washington students - are eligible to win a college scholarship from the Northwest Education Loan Association. The association is contributing $26,000 toward a new College Goal Sunday Washington scholarship program.
