Hats off (or on?) to Dr. Seuss
The popular children’s author, Theodor Seuss Geisel, was born March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Mass.
Classrooms at Helen Haller Elementary welcomed Sequim High students to read with them in the morning.
Younger students made “Cat in the Hat” red-striped hats for the occasion and some teachers planned to have guest readers all day.
National Education Association volunteers started the event in 1998 to celebrate reading. It remains the largest national reading celebration.
Research shows children who spend more time reading do better in school.
