Ackley, Dunbar picked for Carnegie show

Dalton Ackley and Stephanie Dunbar, seniors at Sequim High School, have been selected to sing with the Honors Choir at the 2011 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Participation in the Honors Orchestra, Honors Band and Honors Choir is limited to the highest-rated high school performers from across North America.

Ackley and Dunbar auditioned last fall for the Honors Performance Series and were accepted after a review by the selection board committee.

They join other performers from the United States and Canada for a special performance at Carnegie.

The Sequim duo both study music with Stephanie Clark, Sequim High School choir director, and both are members of Sequim High School Select Choir and Jazz Band.

Dunbar has been studying opera with Sydney Keegan and Lisa VonGoerken since 2008.

Ackley studies classically under VonGoerken and Gary McRoberts.

Honors Choir finalists come together for five days in February 2011 in New York City and learn from Dr. Eph Ehly, work with other finalists and tour New York City. The Saturday, Feb. 19, performance is available to the public and specially invited representatives from collegiate music programs.
