Local student gets P.C.’s Leadership 1000 scholarship
Peninsula College student Garrett Mueller of Discovery Bay is the recipient of a Leadership 1000 Scholarship from the College Success Foundation.
The scholarship provides Mueller with up to $5,000 a year for up to four years for him to complete his planned studies in freshwater resources.
Mueller, 43, a member of the Tsi-Akim Maidu Tribe in California, has been attending Peninsula College for the past year and plans to transfer to Western Washington University’s Huxley College of the Environment on the Peninsulas when he completes his A.A. transfer degree at P.C. He already is doing volunteer work that will enhance that goal — plant restoration projects for the Elwha River.
“Receiving this scholarship has made me want to do my best,” Mueller says. “To think that someone is willing to invest in my future is amazing — I will work extra hard not to let them down.”
Mueller credits Peninsula College with helping him get to where he is now. “It has given me the skills and confidence to obtain a career,” he says.
In just one year, Mueller has distinguished himself as a new member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, with an impressive grade-point average of 3.80.
