Pigs and magic come back to library

Sequim Library is making waves with its upcoming summer reading program.

The North Olympic Library System's 2010 program, "Make a splash - READ!" encourages children throughout Clallam County to continue reading during summer when school is out by offering free events and prizes.

From Monday, June 21 through Saturday, Aug. 7, children and teens are invited to sign up for the program at the Sequim branch or any of other three branches in Port Angeles, Clallam Bay and Forks.

Librarians warn parents of the "summer slide," where children who do not read during the summer can lose up to a month of learning from the previous year.

They encourage children to read at least six books during the summer.

Teens, grades seven-12, are included in this year's summer reading program along with young students. They can write a book review, post it on the library's blog and be entered in a drawing for a prize.

A weekly educational program is at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays behind the library at 630 N. Sequim Ave. If there is inclement weather, programs are held at Sequim Middle School, 301 W. Hendrickson Road, unless noted.
