The Museum & Arts Center in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley invites its members to an after-hours reception marking the opening of its new “Pastimes” historical exhibit from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the MAC Exhibit Center, 175 W. Cedar St., Sequim.

The event is free to all current MAC members and life members, and those who join at the door also are welcome. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by longtime MAC volunteer and member Helen Bucher and Elsy Laresser, both of whom will be playing accordions. Refreshments will be provided.

From boxing matches to barn dances and baseball games to horse races through downtown, the “Pastimes” exhibit will highlight the games, sporting events, clubs and groups, and recreational activities that entertained locals through the 1950s.

“More than 150 organizations were formed locally from 1900 through the 1950s to support the interests of locals,” said MAC history exhibits coordinator Lyn Fiveash. “The creativity of our early settlers set the foundation for what we continue to enjoy today, whether it be women getting together in a sewing circle, joining fraternal organizations or sports teams, or families going swimming in the bay.”

Memberships help support continued MAC operations, programs and events. Annual MAC membership rates are $20 for individuals, $30 for families and $50 for businesses. Membership forms are available at the MAC Exhibit Center and on the MAC website at
