You’ll Laugh Your Heart Out
One of the most beloved holiday stories of one family’s absurdity comes to the stage this November and December.
The Port Angeles Community Players perform “A Christmas Story” from Friday, Nov. 23, through Sunday, Dec. 9.
Rosy-cheeked and with big glasses, Ralphie retells his fateful Christmas with hopes for a Red Ryder bb Gun. Throughout the yarn, his wish is often met with the well-known phrase, “You’ll shoot your eye out.”
“This story is beloved by so many people. It’s a classic story we can all identify with,” said director Barbara Frederick. “We’ve all had that one gift that we just knew we couldn’t go on without.”
Ralphie’s imagination gets the better of him as he dreams up all kinds of scenarios with the BB gun becoming vitally important to his life and those around him. The story is a compilation of short stories by Jean Sheperd about his life growing up in Indiana.
The cast includes Damon Little as Ralphie; Chandler Wendeborn as adult Ralph, who narrates the play; Bob Bronsink as The Old Man; Peggy Kempf as Ralphie’s mom; and Connor Nagel as Ralphie’s brother, Randy.
His friends are played by Cody Anderson, Bryson Schafer, Faith Chamberlain, Alisandra Baccus, Allison Winters, Hudson Soelter and Stuart Methner. Lola Hassan-Adams plays Ralphie’s teacher.
The 1983 film was adapted for the stage in 2000.
