Rock hounds set meeting date

Chuck Metz, a retired Air Force pilot and engineer, will be the guest speaker at the Clallam County Gem & Mineral Association meeting at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, on the second floor of the Fifth Avenue Retirement Center, 500 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim. His presentation will be on fossils.

The group also will hold its fall open house from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the club’s shop at 81 Hooker Road, Unit 5, Sequim.

If you have rocks you would like to identify; if you would like to see and know how to cut rocks; if you would like to see and know how to polish stones for use in jewelry or for display, come to the open house. Club members will be available to show you the shop and its facilities as well as answer your questions.

Watch the ongoing demonstration in rock cutting and polishing, metal smithing, wire wrapping polished stones, casting, creating chain mail jewelry and faceting stones.
