Peninsula celebrates author, translator with art events, poetry
Cross-cultural poetry and art events over one week on the North Olympic Peninsula will celebrate a Russian writer and artist’s just-published reflections on life on the Pacific Coast.
The author and translator of “California Psalms,” a new book from Astoria, Ore.’s, Radiolarian Press, will give joint recitals and book signings at gatherings in Port Angeles and Port Townsend on Sept. 17 and 19.
“California Psalms’” author is St. Petersburg, Russia, native Tatyana Apraksina. The book’s English version and its bilingual introduction and commentaries, are the work of a California-based translator, James Manteith, with roots on the Olympic Peninsula, An exhibit of the author’s original illustrations provide a backdrop for both evening presentations.
Recitals and book celebrations are in downtown Port Angeles at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Oven Spoonful, 110 E. First St., and in downtown Port Townsend at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, as part of the Northwind Reading Series at Northwind Arts Center, 2409 Jefferson St.
