July is National Picnic Month. Celebrate at the library by packing your picnic basket with delicious summer treats, local berries and lavender lemonade.

The North Olympic Library System offers seven evenings of live music at the Sequim Library and the Port Angeles Library this summer.

All summer concerts start at 6 p.m. Bring your blanket, chairs and friends and enjoy the music on the library lawn.

In Sequim

Summertime Music! series feature concerts on Friday evenings on the back lawn at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

On Aug. 8, Geoffrey Castle’s solo performance features the virtuoso on electric six-string violin.

The rockabilly and blues band The Soul Ducks finish out the concert series on Sept. 12.

In addition to the concerts, the Sequim Library hosts an outdoor intergenerational contra dance on Aug. 22. Contra dancing can be described as New England-style folk dance. This community event is great for beginner dancers and all dances will be taught.

The contra dance features the band Power House and caller Amy Carroll. Power House includes local musicians Kate Powers on fiddle, Ethan Powers on guitar and banjo, Kristina Tormala on Oregon bass and Chris Burt on guitar and mandolin.

And in Port Angeles …

Summer concerts are held on Thursday evenings at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., in August. Howly Slim and Sandy Summers will play on Aug. 7. If you missed Good Machine at the Sequim Library in July, you can see them on Aug. 14 and The Winterlings perform on Aug. 21.

For the fun of it

The summer concerts are a fun way to get out and enjoy the beautiful summer weather and spend quality time with your loved ones. The library offers a variety of programs for families, youths and adults throughout the year to provide enriching activities for community members.

If you want to listen to the bands’ music beyond the summertime concerts, check out one of their CDs at the library. The library offers several albums of this summer’s featured bands including Good Machine, The Winterlings and Geoffrey Castle. If classical music, jazz, rock or country western is more your style, you can find music CDs in these genres, as well.

The Summertime Music! outdoor concert series is generously supported by the Friends of Sequim Library and the Port Angeles Friends of the Library.
