Northwest Regional Spinners Association

What you see upon entering the Port Angeles Library meeting room is a circle of chairs surrounding a circle of spinning wheels. In the chairs are chatty women turning fiber (usually wool, sometimes alpaca, silk, llama or cotton) into yarn by using foot-power to propel the spinning wheel that twists the fluff, strengthening it until it is usable for weaving, knitting, felting, embroidery or crafts, or just looking beautiful in a basket. Some spinners use a spindle that they spin like a top instead of a wheel to make the yarn.

The local group, the Peninsula Plyers, comprises Area 2005, which covers the North Olympic Peninsula and includes members from Forks to Quilcene. It meets from 1-4 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of the month in the meeting room of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

NWRSA includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, and members participate in regional programs including conferences, workshops, spin-ins, judging certification, education loans and use of a lending library in addition to local classes, workshops, spin-ins and demonstrations.
