Sing-along to Sweet Music

For more than three years, Sequim has been singing along to the melodies of Sweet Music.
Made up of about 10 local volunteer professional and amateur singers and musicians, Sweet Music plays popular songs in a variety of genres from the 1920s-1960s.
On Jan. 30, the group will play for people of all ages at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club with donations going to the club.
Director Christina Gross said she approached the club with an offer to play as a benefit and club officials were delighted.
Typically, Sweet Music plays at restaurants, clubs, special events and assisted-care facilities.
Their set list includes familiar songs such as "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain," "Mr. Sandman" and "Camptown Races."
"Some of our songs are performed as costumed skits and, as always, Sweet Music interacts with the audience to get them to be part of the show and have fun," Gross said.
Dancing is encouraged.
Sweet beginnings
Gross created and developed Sweet Music in 2005 while living in Bend, Ore.
She wanted to bring talented musicians together to perform so families and people of all ages could enjoy quality, wholesome music.
In 2006, she and her partner plectrum banjo player Robert Schmeltzer came to Sequim and continued developing Sweet Music for new audiences with new members.
Sweet Music members play the piano, banjo, guitar, electric bass, violin, mandolin, percussion and/or drums.
They rehearse weekly at Sequim Valley Foursquare Church, 9090 Old Olympic Highway.
Gross said rehearsals are open to the public to listen and/or potentially participate.
