Surviving the unexpected wilderness misadventure can be easier than you think ... or more miserable than your wildest nightmare. It all depends on what you know, how well you are equipped and your survival attitude.

At 7 p.m. Friday, May 21, the Port Angeles Library and Odyssey Bookshop present a free talk by local author Rich Johnson, who will share experiences gained while living with his young family in the Utah wilderness for a year. Campers, hikers, tourists and day trippers will learn to avoid trouble through his tips on staying safe in the outdoors and surviving unexpected emergencies.

Johnson will speak in the library's Carver Meeting Room, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles, about his "Guide to Wilderness Survival: How to Avoid Trouble and How to Live Through the Trouble You Can't Avoid."
