National Guard kicks off concerts

The sounds of summer kick off in Sequim when the bands start to play.

For 11 nights, a variety of bands play at the James Center for the Performing Arts, 563 N. Rhodefer Road, just north of Carrie Blake Park, for the annual Music and a Movie in the Park series.

The bands play from 6-8 p.m. except Tuesday, Aug. 3, movie night, when they play from 6-9 p.m..

The series begins Tuesday, June 29, with the Air National Guard Band of the Northwest, which plays traditional band music as well as new and original selections for wind ensemble.



Concert schedule

All concerts are held at the James Center for the Performing Arts just north of Carrie Blake Park at 563 N. Rhodefer Road.

The music runs 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays, except for the 133rd Army Band that plays a special Fourth of July concert on Friday, July 2. On movie night, Tuesday, Aug. 3, music is from 6-9 p.m. with "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" playing at dusk.

All performances and the movie are free, sponsored by donations and coordinated by the city of Sequim.

The musical event started in 2006 and movies began in 2007.
