Christopher Melly and Karen Hanan are new members of Serenity House of Clallam County’s board of directors. Melly, Clallam County District Court I commissioner and land use hearings examiner, and Hanan, executive director of Arts Northwest and founder of the Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts, were elected in April.

They join Brando Blore, president; Brandel Sundt, vice president; Rob Tulloch, treasurer; and Patsy Feeley, secretary, who were re-elected as officers at the agency’s Jan. 18 annual meeting.

At the annual meeting, service awards also were presented to the following:

• Volunteers Sandra Enger, Mario Lopez and board member Roger White and his wife, Phyllis White, for making possible the August 2010 opening of the Hygiene Center, 516 E. First St., staffed entirely by volunteers.

• Professional property managers Irene Bourm and Ken Tobias, for being willing partners to help house the hardest-to-serve homeless people, including re-entering offenders.

• Habitat for Humanity executive director Maitland Peet, the community agency partner award for helping to create Maloney Heights, a new neighborhood where Serenity House opened a 28-unit supportive housing apartment building and where Habitat has begun construction on the first of 14 self-help homes.

• Sally Garnero Memorial Volunteer Awards went to Pat Lohrer, a volunteer at the Port Angeles Serenity House Thrift store since its founding in 2002, and Carol Von Brocklin, a volunteer at the Sequim Serenity Shop.
