Free sewing event planned
“Sew for the Fun of it!” is the theme for National Sewing Month. On Saturday, Sept. 29, Creative Threads, a local Chapter of the American Sewing Guild, shares fun, fast and easy ideas for using sewing machines, sergers and embroidery machines. Free demonstrations are from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Karen’s Sewing Center Classroom, 609 W. Washington St., Sequim. Caspar Babypants returns
Popular family entertainer Caspar Babypants (Chris Ballew) returns to the Olympic Peninsula with free concerts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.; and at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct.3, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Library stocks symphony selections
The North Olympic Library System and the Port Angeles Symphony have added music CDs to the library's collection, including pieces featured in the 2012-2013 symphony season. Search the catalog at any branch or from home (www.nols.org) using the phrase "Symphony Selection."
Library hosts art reception
The Sequim Library hosts an after-hours Art for painter Robert Lee from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, as part of Sequim's First Friday Art Walk. Singer/keyboard player Kate Lily provides live music and limited library services are available.
Barn dance features 'Polecat'
"Polecat" plays for a barn dance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in Nash’s packing shed, 1865 E. Anderson Road, Sequim. Entry is $10 (under 16 free).
Rock and gem show benefits Clallam schools scholarships
The Clallam County Gem & Mineral Society sponsors "Nature's Treasures," a rock, gem and jewelry artisans show, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
In addition to vendors, the show includes demonstrations of flint knapping, faceting, silversmithing, wire-wrapping, beading and driftwood sculpture. A gemologist answers questions about rocks, gems and jewelry.
Admission is free. Drawings are held for raffle prizes and meals are available for purchase. All proceeds benefit scholarship funds for Clallam County school districts.
