Aspiring Christian folk-rock musician Tom Taylor continues to hear that his music is finding a wider audience.
His latest efforts have seen his single “Defeated” playing on a few U.S. radio stations and his “Lord You Are” is playing down under on Australia's Vision Radio Network with 500 stations since January.
Taylor's next ambition is to do another radio promotion in the mainstream market with his songs “When I Say That I love You,” a love song for his wife, and "Taking Me Back,” about his hometown and fond memories.
At about halfway through his fundraising campaign, Taylor plays a concert Wednesday, July 31, at Calvary Chapel Sequim, 91 S. Boyce Road at 7 p.m. Tickets are by donation and help with his campaign.
Last year, he successfully funded production for four songs through Kickstarter, an online fundraiser program. The songs went on his fifth album, “Taking Me Back.”
In the title track, Taylor said he's reminiscing about the good old days of hearing a song on the radio and being taken back.
“It talks about my hometown and how it'll always be special,” he said.
The folksy, country number features Hayden Pomeroy, formerly of Abby Mae & the Homeschool Boys, on upright bass, violinist Mary Moon and Jeremy Cays on piano.
Taylor said he's trying to reach a new audience in the secular market but first and foremost he remains a Christian artist.
“I look at it as a way to widen the platform for my ministry and to have a wider audience to share the gospel,” he said.
“I see a crossover song as a powerful tool. Certain people look at as a negative, but I see it as a positive.”
With his promotion for the mainstream radio market, Taylor said these songs could cross several genres and go to several stations.
After the promotion, Taylor plans to release his sixth album "The Definitive Collection," 30 songs on two discs, in September or October. It will feature some brand new songs and some re-recorded songs from his first two albums.
He said this album seemed like a good chance to do something better with the earlier recordings and improve upon them.
