Bond serves the community in the long run

I’m writing to support and lend some of my thoughts on the current Sequim School District bond proposal. The current bond is about providing safe, clean space and facilities for students, teachers and parents to succeed.

There has been an argument from some in the community about maintaining what you have rather that rebuilding. There is a difference between a modern building built today and the current school which was built in the 1950s and 1960s. A well-designed, constructed and maintained building can last a long time, but the only true test is to inspect the buildings over time; ours are no longer passing the test. The facilities are old and showing their age, not in a good way.

This is not a question of parents and teachers, it is a question of facilities that are able to provide the needed safe, clean space for them to work and learn. We all agree that teachers and parents are two main pillars of education.

Good school facilities are another pillar that supports the education process. To ignore this is a mistake. This bond is an investment in the future that has the greatest possible upside for us all.

It is my heartfelt feeling that this community will be best served in the long term by this bond and the rebuilding of our schools.

The upside potential is so great for all of us if we focus on education. I hope that you will consider my opinion as you submit your vote and vote in favor.
