A call to artists for vinyl box project

The City of Sequim is looking for sponsors and artists to continue developing the Traffic Utility Box Vinyl Wrap Project. Above, see Gary Robertson’s fine artwork at the corner of Washington Street and Fifth Avenue, one of the utility box art pieces installed through a project with the City of Sequim.  The public art project began as part of the Sequim Centennial Celebration in 2013. To date, three traffic utility boxes have been wrapped in unique designs submitted by local artists. The city is looking for new design submittals and sponsors for the program. Sponsorship of a traffic utility box is $1,500. Of that, $500 goes to compensate the artist and $1,000 covers the production and installation of the art. Each box has a panel identifying the artist and sponsor and has a Quick Response (QR) code that can be scanned with a smartphone to learn more about the project on the city’s website www.sequimwa.gov. Artists also can view the complete Call for Entries and background materials on the city website www.sequimwa.gov. Art submittals will be reviewed on how well they meet the criteria outlined in the Call for Entries. Approved art will be installed upon the availability of sponsorships. To sponsor a traffic utility box, submit a design or have questions, contact Communications and Marketing Director Barbara Hanna at 681-3422 or bhanna@sequimwa.gov.
