Watercolors by NOW artists on display

A group of artists who are members of NOW (North Olympic Watercolorists) are displaying their watercolors now through April at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Participating artists include Reiko Barclay, Beverly Beighle, Lyn Conlan, Janet Flatley, Margo Hankel, Rita Heywood, Roger Huntley, Shirley Rudolf, Jolene Sanborn, Kathi Vito, Carol Wilhelm and John Wilkinson.

A meet-the-artist open reception is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25.

Library hours are 10 a.m.- 8 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Sand sculptor to present at OPAA meeting

Kali Bradford, a world-renowned sand sculptor and multi-media artist, will present and talk about her artwork and experiences at Olympic Peninsula Art Association’s meeting set for 9:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. Luke’s Episcopal church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

A National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) recipient, Bradford is a Sequim artist who has sculpted sand in and around town including sculptures for the Sequim Irrigation Festival and Lavender Weekend, the Reach and Row for Hospice and Waterfront Day event at John Wayne Marina, and commercial sculptures at Adagio Bean & Leaf. She also is a substitute teacher for Sequim schools.

Bradford’s career has spanned more than 30 years, during which she has traveled the world carving a variety of artworks, ranging from 3 to 64 feet, in China, Australia, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, India and the United States.

Monday Musicale welcomes Just in Tyme

Port Angeles Monday Musicale’s monthly meeting is set for noon on Monday, Jan. 21, at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church Fellowship Hall at 209 W. 11th St., Port Angeles. The meeting is followed at 1 p.m. by a free concert featuring Just in Tyme, a local group that plays a variety of music from vintage to contemporary.

Monday Musicale meets the third Monday of the month and proceeds from the memberships are used to provide scholarships for local high school musicians.

‘Art as Activism’

Enjoy a meal and support the arts at the “Art as Activism” evening set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

As attendees enjoy an intimate dinner prepared by chef Scottie Sinclair, organizers explore connections between activism and creative work. Friends of all political persuasions are welcome.

Tickets are $35, and include dinner and a complementary glass of wine.

‘Novel Conversations’ at Sequim Library

The Novel Conversations, a monthly book discussion group “fostering dialogue around works of fiction and nonfiction, exploring world literature in a round-table setting,” meets from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.

This month’s conversation revolves around “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Housseini. In a divided country on the verge of war, childhood friends Amir and Hassan are torn apart as one boy’s fearful act of betrayal mark their lives forever and set in motion an epic quest for redemption.

Fourth Friday readings slated for Jan. 25

The next session of Fourth Friday Readings is set for 6:15 p.m. Jan. 25 in the media room at The Lodge, 660 Evergreen Farm Way. Featured writers are Gary Bullock and Terry Moore, who bring a wide range of experiences to the evening. Following the writers are 5-minute open mic readings. Attendees are encouraged to bring poems, short-short stories or memoir/novel snippets. Rehearse in advance, as readings are timed. Guidelines are available at Heidi@olypen.com.
