Snowgrass concert set

An evening of bluegrass comes to the Port Angeles High School Auditorium, 304 E. Park St., at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21. This fundraiser for First Step Family Support Center features Crescent Blue, Luck of the Draw, The Tony Flagg Trio and Haywire. Tickets are $12 in advance, $14 at the door; $10 for seniors 65+, $7 for teens and children 12 and under are free. Tickets are available at Port Book &News and the Co-op Farm &Garden.

JFFA plans dinner/auction

The Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts will have its annual fundraising dinner/auction beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The band MarchFourth plays at 6:30 p.m. Tickets $30 or $240 for a table of eight and ticket outlets at jffa.org (online) Port Book and News, Port Angeles, and Joyful Noise Music, Sequim.

Students in spotlight at Fourth Friday Readings

Sequim High School students Harley Davidson and Claire Nakagawara are the featured writers at the next Fourth Friday Readings in Sequim, set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at The Lodge, 660 Evergreen Farm Way.

The evening also features five-minute open mic readings: bring poems, short-stories or memoir/novel snippets. Get guidelines by email at heidi@olypen.com. The event is sponsored by Writers on the Spit.

Book group discusses ‘Whistling Season’

“The Whistling Season” by Ivan Doig will be discussed at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The novel is set in the past in rural eastern Montana. Copies of “The Whistling Season” are available in regular print, e-book and audiobook on CD and can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org. Pre-registration for this program is not required, and drop-ins are always welcome.

Art workshops for youths begin at library

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 21, the popular “Kids Create Art” program series will resume at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. These fun, introductory art workshops will take place from 10:30 a.m.-noon every third Saturday of the month, January-May.

Led by local artists, each Kids Create Art session, recommended for ages 7-12, will offer participants an opportunity to explore various artistic media. All workshops in the series are free, but with class sizes limited, pre-registration is required.
