Baker is featured artist at OPAA meeting

Artist Bridget Baker will share her knowledge of acrylic pours at the next Olympic Peninsula Art Association members meeting, set for 9:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, May 24, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.

Along with discussing some lower-cost alternatives to pouring mediums, Baker will also cover how people can avoid having their pours look like a cliche through creating original color choices, strategic use of metallic and color-shifting paints, using a variety of additives to produce cells, and incorporating a pour into a larger painting.

Sequim’s Woodcock demo garden walk set

Veteran Master Gardener Bev Dawson will guide visitors through the Master Gardeners’ Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 31.

The 2.5-acre garden features native and ornamental plants in a variety of garden spaces, including cottage, pollinator, grass and rose gardens, raised vegetable beds and an orchard. This new free event offers local gardeners the opportunity to see what grows well in the area and learn good gardening practices. The walk focuses on dahlia, vegetable and herb gardening.

Master Gardeners tend the gardens on Thursdays and will be available to answer questions on their respective areas.

The Demonstration Garden is free and open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. It is owned and financially supported by the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County. Foundation fundraisers include a Spring Plant Sale in May and a home garden tour in June. For more information about this and other Master Gardener events, call the program coordinator at 360-565-2679.

Yoga storytime set at Sequim Library

Yoga Storytime is a full-body experience that looks to build early literacy skills and healthy bodies at the same time. This interactive storytime — set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. — features stories, songs, yoga poses and breathing exercises for children and their caregivers.

Activities such as talking, reading, playing and singing all play an important role in early childhood development, which is why they are included in storytimes at NOLS, library officials say.

For more information about this and other programs for youth, contact the Sequim Library at 360-683-1161, Youth@nols.org or www.nols.org.
