Learn of samurai secrets

On Thursday, Nov. 15, the Studium Generale Series welcomes Lori Tsugawa Whaley for a presentation titled, “The Seven Samurai Secrets of Success,” at 12:35 p.m. in the Little Theater on the main campus of Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

A third generation Japanese American and a descendant of the samurai warrior, Tsugawa Whaley is an author, inspirational speaker, and life coach who explains that she is “on a mission to empower others to reach their God-given potential, no matter their path, heritage, or circumstances.” Her book, “The Courage of a Samurai: Seven Sword Sharp Principles for Success,” became an Amazon International eBook Best Seller in October 2016. It explores the Code of Bushido, principles the ancient warriors of Japan known as samurai lived by.

Marimba band to entertain at Monday Musicale

The Monday Musicale group holds monthly meeting starting at noon on Nov. 19 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church’s Fellowship Hall, 201 W. 11th St., Port Angeles.

At 1 p.m. a free concert featuring the Queen of Angels Marimba Band is set.

Monday Musicale meets the third Monday of each month and proceeds from the $15 per year memberships are used to provide scholarships for local high school musicians.

The group’s Nov. 4 benefit concert collected more than $4,000 for scholarships.

PT guild sets holiday bazaar

Port Townsend Community Center will be the site for the juried 28th-annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair, set for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 23-24 at at 620 Tyler St., Port Townsend.

The show is staged by the Port Townsend Arts Guild, a nonprofit arts guild that offers arts scholarships to Jefferson County students majoring in the arts. The artists donate a portion of each sale to the Jefferson County Food Bank.

Tidepools now taking submissions

The editors and staff of have opened submissions for the 55th edition of Tidepools Magazine.

Tidepools, a production of Peninsula College in conjunction with the Peninsula Daily News and The Buccaneer, features works submitted by residents of the North Olympic Peninsula in the following categories: fine and digital art, photography, poetry, short prose and music.

The contest is now officially open for residents of all ages from Jefferson and Clallam Counties. The contest deadline is Jan. 11. Winners will be announced by March 15, 2019.

Wreath workshop on tap

The Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair hosts a second Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose workshop session focused on making a holiday wreath, set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 895 Sporseen Road, Sequim.

Cost is $15. Funds from the workshop support the Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts and Crafts Fair in May.

A variety of repurposed materials and festive frill is supplied; participants are encouraged to bring a special ornament, keepsake or an item to add to their wreath(s).
