Book group takes on ‘The Golden Legend’

The Second Saturday Book Discussion Group meets to talk about Nadeem Aslam’s “The Golden Legend” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The story is of a Muslim widow and her Christian neighbors, whose community is consumed by violent religious intolerance.

To participate, simply read the book and attend the discussion; no reservations are needed, and drop-ins are welcome.

Copies of “The Golden Legend” are available in various formats including regular print, large print, audiobook on CD and downloadable eBook, which may be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org. A limited number of copies of each book discussion selection are available at the library the month prior to each meeting. To view a complete list of the 2018 selections, visit www.nols.org/book-discussion-groups.

The book group meets each second Saturday of the month. The program is supported by the Friends of the Sequim Library. For more information about this and other programs, visit www.nols.org, email Discover@nols.org or call 360-683-1161.

Square dance lessons, ice cream on tap

The Rhody O’s Square Dance Club is offering beginning square dance lessons starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road. All are invited to a free ice cream social and an introductory dance lesson.

Lessons are held each Tuesday evening through the autumn and winter, with graduation in late spring. There is no experience necessary. The program is designed for those who have never square danced in their lives (or maybe years ago), but wished they had. The Rhody O’s are an informal group who dance in shorts and jeans and sometimes their gardening clothes.

For more information, call Trish at 360-683-2409.
