Apples galore at Woodcock Garden walk

The orchard at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden is full of apples, pears and Asian pears. At 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, Bruce Pape — a Master Gardener and Woodcock orchard supervisor — and Master Gardener Keith Dekker guide visitors through the demonstration garden orchard and its many varieties.

Types of apples, pruning techniques and timing and orchard husbandry will be discussed. Gardeners will find ideas for plantings they might wish to incorporate into their gardens.

This will be the Master Gardeners’ final garden tour of the season.

Master Gardeners tend the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, a scenic 2.74-acre site at 2711 Woodcock Road, on Thursday mornings and will be available to answer questions on their respective areas. The site has garden displays exhibiting sustainable gardening techniques that cover a broad range of ornamentals, edible and native plants as well as composting and garden design. It is open to the public for free daily.

Note: The bridge over the Dungeness River on Woodcock Road is currently closed, so visitors are asked to follow detour signs.
