Class registration opens for fall term at Clallam Mosaic

Clallam Mosaic, a local nonprofit working to empower people with special needs, is opening registration for its 11-week fall term.

Classes will begin on Monday, Oct. 1, and run through Friday, Dec. 21. Information about class times and days, registration forms, class descriptions and printable monthly calendars can be downloaded from www.clallammosaic.org/classes.

Fees for individual classes are between $33 and $66 for the term, with the exception of two free classes funded by Clallam County Health and Human Services, Developmental Disabilities.

The free class “Circle of Life” will help develop strong relationship skills appropriate for the home, the workplace and the community.

The second free class is “Superheroes & Super Skills.” This class will address skills such as communicating properly, effectively working in teams and real-world problem solving, powering up for daily living from work to play.

For the fall term, fee based classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at the Holy Lutheran Trinity Church, 301 Lopez Ave., Port Angeles. Classes include: Fit & Strong; Rec Club; Music; Art Cooking and Literacy.

There is a pre-screening requirement for the Literacy class. Call Catherine at 360-681-8642 to schedule pre-screening.

Two fee-based classes will be held on Tuesdays at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, N. Sequim Ave., Sequim: Art, and Rec Club. Because of limited class size, call to reserve a space. Once classes are filled, a waiting list will be created.

In addition to weekly classes, two free technology seminars are offered. These classes help attendants to be more comfortable using smart phones, tablets and computers. Led by Peninsula College professor Tanya Knight, the seminars are held from 10 a.m.-noon on two Saturdays — Oct. 13 and 27 — at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Also during the fall term, a drumming circle will be held Saturdays from noon-1 p.m., just prior to Mosaic’s monthly dances, on Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8. Cost for the drumming circle is $3 per session. Cost for the dance is $7, and includes a light meal. No registration is required for the drumming circle or the dance. Caregivers and family have free entry, although a donation is requested to defray costs.

Limited scholarships are available. Scholarship forms are available online and at the office, located at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Registration forms are due by Oct. 8. A late fee per class will be applied to registration forms received after Oct. 8.
