Community: City seeks youths to create holiday ornaments

The Sequim City Arts Advisory Committee invites all fourth-graders and/or children 9 years old in the Sequim School District to create an ornament for the city’s holiday tree to be on display from late November to early January.

This year’s theme is “What the Holidays Mean to Me” and ornaments are due at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., from 1-3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21.

The tree will be decorated and on display by Nov. 28.

A tree lighting and reception for students participating and their parents will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, during the First Friday Art Walk.

Ornament specifications

• Color — There are no color restrictions.

• Size — Maximum size is 5 by 5 by 5 inches; minimum is 2 by 2 by 2 inches.

• Materials — Only dry materials; no fluid, live entries, candles, electric, battery-powered or flammable materials allowed.

• Accepted materials — Commercial crafting materials, fabric, decorated plastic or glass tree balls, flowers, moss or tree twigs.

• Hanging — All ornaments must be presented with a hanging loop.
