Mammoth molar on display today

The most recent archaeological find in Sequim, a molar from a woolly mammoth estimated to be 19,000-20,000 years old, will be on display from 2-6 p.m. today, May 24, at JACE Real Estate Company, 761 N. Sequim Ave.

The molar, weighing more than 10 pounds, was found by Realtor Lori Christie while hiking in Sequim and has been examined by the Burke Museum in Seattle, as well as featured in the Sequim Gazette and on KIRO News. Photos with the molar are offered to people by donation to Pennies for Quarters the local organization providing transitional housing and counseling for homeless veterans on the Olympic Peninsula.

Plant-A-Rama event in Port Angeles this June

The Port Angeles Garden Club Plant-A-Rama will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., Port Angeles. Meet garden club members, including expert gardeners, and explore opportunities in Pacific Northwest gardening. This event is held in conjunction with National Garden Club Week, June 4-10.

Hoarding conference set

The Clallam County Hoarding Task Force, in partnership with The Hoarding Project, will host a seminar on hoarding with Dr. Jennifer Sampson and professional organizer Terina Bainter from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at The Landings Mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., Ste. 205, Port Angeles.

The conference cost is $90. Four Continuing Education Units will be offered. While this seminar is aimed toward professionals, the public is welcome to attend, especially those with a loved one struggling with hoarding disorders. Donate to dog wash

Sequim High School’s Class of 2018 will sponsor a dog wash from 3-5 p.m. Friday, May 26, just outside of the SHS cafeteria. Cost is by donation. A bake sale also will be in progress. Proceeds from these endeavors will go toward funding the Class of 2018’s senior year activities.

Composites team plans open house

Peninsula College invites the public to attend an open house featuring its Advanced Manufacturing/CNC–Composite Technology programs at the Composite Recycling Technology Center from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, June 3, at 2220 W. 18th St., Port Angeles. Anyone interested in this growing field is welcome to attend and ask questions of team. Faculty, students and staff will be on hand to show what students have been building out of carbon fiber.

Strait Turners club meets May 30 in Gardiner

The next meeting of the Strait Turners woodturners group will be from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, May 30, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, Gardiner. Richard “Dick” Bumgarner will be demonstrating the embellishing of end grain vessels using the Sorby Sovereign System plus some homemade tools.

Comicon is coming

The Clallam Bay Comicon is being held for the sixth year in Clallam Bay on July 8-9. Admission is free. Memorial Day observed

Memorial Day services at the Gardiner Community Cemetery will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 29. The Sequim VFW and American Legion will have a combined ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

Shepherds’ fest planned at grange

The Shepherds’ Festival will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, May 29, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, Sequim. The public is welcome and admission is free. The festival features spinning and weaving demonstrations, a petting farm, sheep shearing demos, herding dog demos, craft vendors, lamb kabobs, lamb chili and more. The event is sponsored by the Olympic Peninsula Fiber Growers Association, North Olympic Shuttle &Spindle Guild and Lambchops 4-H club.

New party forming

Bill Kildall, Washington state coordinator of the Draft Bernie for a People’s Party, announced that the party’s founding conference for Clallam County will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, east of Sequim. The Draft Bernie for a People’s Party organization aims to channel the enthusiasm generated by the Bernie Sanders 2016 presidential campaign into building a new political party. The People’s Party intends to work locally, regionally and nationally in seeking economic, social and environmental justice.

PC program hosts pinning ceremony

The Peninsula College Medical Assisting Program holds its annual pinning ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, in the college’s Little Theater. Graduates from prior years that have passed the NCMA exam are encouraged to participate and should RSVP to Rachel Pairsh at rpairsh@pencol.edu, or ­­Elsey Eaton at elseyeaton@gmail.com or 360-808-6631.

Candidates who would like to participate must RSVP by 5 p.m. June 9 and should arrive at least a half-hour early. Candidates should include a one paragraph biography about themselves with their RSVP, not to exceed 250 words.

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed. RSVP to 683-8491. Menus are subject to change.
