Fiddlers set to perform at Shipley Center

On Saturday, May 13, the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association will be meeting and performing at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., Sequim. Open jamming starts at 9:30 a.m. There will be a fiddle workshop covering basic technique and a new tune from 9:30-11 a.m. and the business meeting is at 11 a.m. Open jamming will then continue until 1:30 p.m. On stage performances by WOTFA members are from 1:30-3 p.m. The first 15 minutes will be old-time fiddle music followed by fiddle, bluegrass and country music. Accordionists to gather

The Sequim Accordion Social will be at the Sequim Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 21. A $2-$3 admission is requested at the door to pay for room rental. The featured player will be John Giuliani from Renton. All accordion players should bring their accordion to share a selection or two and accordion lovers are invited to attend. Enter video work in college festival

Current and former Peninsula College students are encouraged to submit their video work for the Fourth Annual Moving Pictures Festival. Entries need to be family friendly, available as a high quality video on YouTube and less than 11 minutes in length. Email a YouTube URL to Renne Emiko Brock, Multimedia Communications Program coordinator, at rbrock@pencol.edu with your name, years attending PC, title of the film or animation and year produced.

Those whose videos are accepted will be notified via email and will be invited to attend the festival. The submission deadline is at noon May 25. The festival will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, in the Little Theater on the Peninsula College campus. There is no cost to submit a video.

Slave saga is book discussion topic

“Twelve Years a Slave” by Solomon Northup will be discussed at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. Copies of “Twelve Years a Slave” are available in various formats including regular print, audiobook on CD, downloadable e-book and audio e-book, and can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org.

Library offers free audiobook downloads

The North Olympic Library System is partnering with Sync this summer to provide free audiobook downloads. Sync is a free summer audiobook program for ages 13 and older and is giving away two complete audiobook downloads a week — pairs of high-interest titles, based on weekly themes. Sign up to get notifications of when the free audiobook downloads are available. Receive alerts by text message, email newsletter or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com.
