Book signing planned

Local author Charlie Sheldon will sign copies of his new novel “Strong Heart” from 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the Fifth Avenue, 500 W. Hendrickson Road, Sequim. The event is open to the public.

Sheldon’s life as a fisherman, port employee and merchant sailor has led him down paths and waterways that have given him maritime expertise, a knowledge of resource management, a passion for pre-recorded history and a deep love of the Olympic National Park and the North Pacific coast.

Saxophone player joins local trio

Jazz saxophonist and flutist Mark Lewis will appear in concert with the David Jones Trio at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, in Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles. Lewis, a Pacific Northwest native, is an accomplished alto sax, baritone sax, flute and piano musician, and has recorded and produced more than 20 albums. Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the show. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $5 for students with ID. Duo combines Latin, Japanese music

Peninsula College will welcome musical duo, Miho &Diego to the Maier Hall at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The duo has been boldly blending Latin and Japanese musical traditions since 2006. Both accomplished musicians in their own right, Miho Takekawa and Diego Coy came together after years of admiring each other’s work and discovering that their sounds could be combined to make something genuinely new and unique.

Artist McCollum to speak about his work

Artist Mike McCollum will present an artist lecture, followed by a reception at the March 2 Studium Generale program held in Peninsula College’s Little Theater, from 12:30-1:30 pm. In addition, his solo exhibition, “Fear and Danger,” will be on display in Peninsula College’s PUB Gallery of Art through March 17. McCollum is known for his personal style and competency across a diversity of mediums, from bronze casting and ceramics to drawing, painting and printmaking. The event free and open to the public.

Accordion social set

The Sequim Accordion Social will be held 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at the Sequim Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St. A $2 or $3 donation is requested at the door to help pay for the room. The featured player is Toby Hanson.

Local artists’ sale supporting trail

Local artist Megan Davis is offering her art for sale to benefit the Olympic Discovery Trail. The event takes place through February at the Blackbird Coffeehouse, 336 E. Eighth St. Port Angeles. The profit from every piece sold will go to support the nonprofit Peninsula Trails Coalition.
