Fall Family Scavenger Hunt set for Saturday

From climbing trees to scouring the ground for the tiniest bug, the Fall Family Scavenger Hunt provides an annual opportunity for families to come together for an afternoon of fun and outdoor learning.

Hosted by Olympic Nature Experience, the fourth annual Scavenger Hunt is set for 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2741 Towne Road.

Cost is $5 per person or $15 per family; all funds raised at the Scavenger Hunt supports Olympic Nature Experience’s programs.

“The goal of this event is to celebrate Fall, the community, and to enjoy time together playing outdoors while learning about nature,” Sarah Salazar-Tipton, Olympic Nature Experience executive director, said.

For those unfamiliar with the all-outdoor nature school, the Scavenger Hunt gives them an opportunity to learn how education in nature happens and to have fun trying it out for an afternoon.

“We hope families with children ages 18 month-12 years will come to the event so they can spend some time outdoors with their children, meet other families, and enjoy some fun activities,” Salazar-Tipton said.

Activities include an interactive scavenger hunt, crafts and active yoga storytime.

This year’s guest presenters are Jennifer Lu’Becke and Patti Swingle from North Olympic Library System.

“Yoga Storytime is a full body experience building early literacy skills and healthy bodies at the same time,” Lu’Becke said. “This interactive storytime features stories, songs, yoga poses, and breathing exercises for children and their caregivers. No yoga experience is necessary. Activities such as talking, reading, playing, and singing all play an important role in early childhood development.”

During all activities baked goods, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
