Green Thumb — Native Landscaping

WSU Clallam County Master Gardener Mike Barnes will discuss ways to make a home landscape wildlife friendly by growing native plants at noon Thursday, May 25, in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.

This presentation is part of the Green Thumb Garden Tips education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners.

Barnes will focus on native landscaping for beauty, low-maintenance care and creating a natural habitat for birds and pollinators.

Barnes will describe characteristics and growing environment for 30 Olympic Peninsula native species. He also will provide tips for propagating native plants and will share both success stories and challenges in his propagating experiences.

Barnes has owned several small businesses including greenhouses, a lavender farm and retail and wholesale nurseries.

The Master Gardener Green Thumb Garden Tips series continues on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Presentations are from noon-1 p.m. For questions, call 565-2679.
