Homeschool bands score well at international festival

Under the direction of band director Daniel Tutton, Northwinds Homeschool’s Jazz, Advanced and Intermediate bands participated in the WorldStrides OnStage International Heritage Festival, held April 4-7 in Chicago, Ill.

The school’s Jazz I, Jazz II and Advanced bands each received a gold award, while the Intermediate Band received a silver award.

In addition, Northwinds’ Advanced and Intermediate bands performed in the Chicago WorldStrides OnStage Festival of Gold, held April 6-9, at which the Advanced Band received a gold award and Intermediate Band received a silver award.

A select group of Northwinds students were invited to join other students from around the United States in the Festival of Gold Honor Band, which performed at the Festival Encore Concert on April 8.

Comprised of local home-based and private school students from Clallam County, the bands rehearse twice weekly in Port Angeles. A free public concert is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles; the community is welcome to the concert and following reception. Prospective band students for the 2019-2020 school year also are welcome to attend in advance of the fall term.
