Explore outer space this summer with the Hands On Children’s Museum.

As part of the Summer Reading Program, the North Olympic Library System hosts the Olympia-based Hands On Children’s Museum as a drop-in program at 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Sequim Middle School, 301 N. Sequim Ave., and later that day at 4 p.m. at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Children can build rumble rovers to explore an alien planet, use strength to recreate the vacuum of space, design a space capsule reentry parachute in a wind tunnel and practice rocket repair skills with circuit blocks and Operation Rocket Repair.

The Hands On Children’s Museum “stimulates curiosity, creativity, and learning through fun, interactive exhibits and programs for children, families and school groups,” library officials say.

The museum is well-known regionally as a destination for kids and families, and its participation in the Library’s annual summer reading program is part of an ongoing outreach to bring the museum to new audiences, program officials say.

The theme for the 2019 Summer Reading Program is “A Universe of Stories.” This summertime celebration which encourages children to keep reading during the summer break from school, features a reading challenge with prizes and a multitude of events for all ages. The program runs through Aug. 17.
