Learn about dahlia tubers at ‘Work to Learn’ party

The Sequim Botanical Garden Society invites the community to the group’s “Work to Learn” Party demonstration, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Terrace Garden just north of the bandshell at Carrie Blake Community Park.

Lee Bowen, the group’s dahlia expert, presents “The Selection and Planting of Dahlia Tubers.” Bowen has been planting dahlias at the garden for about 11 years and at Bellevue Botanical Garden before that.

Participants get to learn the secret to growing healthy dahlia plants that thrive and bloom into October, and are encouraged to work alongside the Society volunteers to plant tubers in the garden’s dahlia beds.

A “Work to Learn” demonstration is held each month during the growing season. Look for an announcement for the May learning party.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Sequim Botanical Garden Society is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim that provides education and visual demonstrations of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices.
