Learn about rose varieties, care at Sequim’s botanical garden

Members of the Sequim Botanical Garden Society invite the community to a “Work to Learn” Party starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Terrace Garden at Carrie Blake Community Park, 350 N. Blake Ave.

Lee Bowen, the group’s rose expert, will talk about rose varieties and care.

Bowen, who has been growing roses at the Terrace Garden as well as his home garden, will teach cutting techniques, fertilizers to use and how to select varieties to grow healthy rose bushes that thrive and bloom into October.

Attendees are encouraged to work alongside the garden society members to maintain the garden roses, or simply observe the renovation underway at the Terrace Garden.

The Sequim Botanical Garden Society is a volunteer partner with the City of Sequim and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The group provides information and a visual demonstrations of what can be done in home gardening with research-based horticultural practices near the band shell in Carrie Blake Community Park.
