Veteran Master Gardener Bob Cain will explain how to make well-informed garden pest management choices that will reward garden productivity and the environment at noon Thursday, April 25, in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

This presentation is part of the Green Thumb education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners.

Cain will discuss Integrated Pest Management — a strategy to prevent and suppress insects, slugs, plant disease and weeds.

He will describe cultural, physical and biological methods of pest management that are intended to reduce human health risks, minimize adverse environmental impacts, and maximize sustainability.

A Master Gardener since 2009, Cain has 40 years of experience growing vegetables in Scotland, Ireland, Colorado and Washington.

Cain writes a monthly article on plant disease for the Clallam County Master Gardener Newsletter and is a frequent contributor to local newspaper gardening columns. He is the 2009 Master Gardener Intern of the Year and 2011 Master Gardener of the Year. He served as the Garden Manager of the Woodcock Demonstration Garden for five years and is a past President of the Master Gardener Foundation of Clallam County.

The Master Gardener Green Thumb Garden Tips education series continues the second and fourth Thursday of each month, from noon-1 p.m. For more information, call 360-565-2679.
