Life: Community chorus presents Christmas concerts

The 32nd annual Sequim Community Christmas Chorus Christmas Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2; and at 3 p.m Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 3-4. All performances will take place at Sequim Seventh-day Adventist Church, 30 Sanford Lane, Sequim.

The chorus is comprised of a cross-section of music lovers from experienced singers with backgrounds in professional chorale music to first-year singers. The group rehearses weekly beginning in September each year and director Gary McRoberts brings them together.

Pianist Cynthia Webster has joined the chorus this year as piano accompanist.

Each year, McRoberts and the chorus board select a variety of sacred Christmas music. This year’s selections include hymns such as “Deo Gloria,” “Who’s That Little Baby” and a beautiful arrangement of “Silent Night.” Audience favorites “Peace, Peace” and “Hallelujah Chorus” also are included.

There is an opportunity for audience members to join in the singing with some traditional carols.

Also featured will be the Deka Piano Trio, with McRoberts on piano, Marlene Moore on cello and Penelope Linterman on violin. John Zuerner will return on oboe to accompany “Peace, Peace.”

The Christmas Chorus donates a portion of proceeds to local charities each year. Last year, the Chorus was able to donate $700 to Sequim Community Aid and the Shipley Center. This year, funds raised will go to support the grade school strings program sponsored by Sequim Community Orchestra.

Tickets are $5 each and are available at Bauer Interior Design, the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center and Forage Gifts &Northwest Treasures in Sequim and at Elliott’s Antique Emporium in Port Angeles. Children under 12 will be admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at one of the listed outlets or make a donation (suggested $5) at the door.
