Life: PC invites entries for play festival

The Peninsula College Drama Department is now accepting submissions for the 2017 Find Your Voice Play Festival, “I’ve Never Told Anyone (But I’m Going to Tell You).”

This year’s festival will include monologues based on any of the following prompts:

• “I’ve never told anyone, but I’m going to tell you.”

• “When I was 10 …”

• “No one could believe how many marbles could fit into a coffin.”

Monologues should be no longer than seven minutes. Poems that can be performed also will be considered. All submissions will be considered works-in-progress. Submitters do not have to use any of the prompt phrases in the monologue itself and are welcome to submit up to three monologues.

To submit a monologue, go to https://peninsulacollegedramadepartment.submittable.com/submit.

Deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. Jan. 15, 2017. Selections for the production will be announced by Jan. 31.

“We’re excited about this festival,” said Dr. Lara Starcevich, drama department chair. “Theater invites collaboration. The 2017 Find Your Voice Festival provides an extraordinary opportunity for writers to see their work leap from the page to the stage and to learn how to refine their work in collaboration with actors and directors.”

“I Never Told Anyone (But, I’m Going to Tell You)” will be performed March 6-8. The venue will be announced at a later date.

Peninsula College recognizes that the arts contribute to the economic vitality of a community and develop skills — critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, communications and teamwork — that prepare its students for future employment, Starcevich said.
