Medical help available to help opioid-use disorders

The Olympic Medical Physicians Primary Care Clinic offers Medication Assisted Treatment — a program that helps individuals manage withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings caused by opioid-use disorder — for the community. Slots are available for new patients, and program officials say enrollment into the program is easy.

Call 360-565-0999 to talk to a registration specialist about a referral into the program. All referrals are confidentially referred to a clinic nurse care manager at the Primary Care Clinic who reviews and then contacts the patient for an assessment.

Patients undergoing Medication Assisted Treatment are connected to a clinic primary care provider as part of their care plan.

Olympic Medical Physicians representatives say Medication Assisted Treatment can improve recovery potential for those with opioid-use disorder by managing and reducing the symptoms and that continued use of opioids comes with serious risks including physical dependence, increased symptoms of depression and opioid overdose that could lead to sudden death.

When used properly, they say, medications used in this treatment do not create a new addiction and helps improve a person’s recovery potential.
