The City of Sequim presented the third annual “Westcott Award” to Mark Caughey for his volunteer service with the Departments of Community Development and Public Works at the City Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Oct. 12.

Caughey began volunteering at the City in 2012 after he had retired from a 25-year career as a city planner and contract administrator. On average he volunteers 10 hours per week or more.

Caughey’s service has helped the City to complete tasks that would not have been possible otherwise. He was instrumental in helping city staff develop the 2016–2021 Capital Improvement Plan. Other projects he has worked on in the past year include the creation of a timeline and scope of work to assist with the implementation of a new software program, assisted with the development of a project management manual for Public Works, developed a project tracking tool, and assisted with the development of a safety manual.

“Mark has been a key player in the Public Works and Community Development departments,” said Public Works management analyst Sarah VanAusdle. “The City is very fortunate to have such a capable and generous volunteer on its team.”

The Westcott Award was named for Emily Westcott in recognition of her tireless commitment to volunteer service within the community. Westcott received the first award in 2014. Pamela Leonard-Ray received the award in 2015.
