Milestone: Olympic Driftwood Sculptors make Wise pick for scholarship

The Olympic Driftwood Sculptors Club announced last week the recipient of the club’s $2,000 Visual Arts Scholarship is Port Angeles High School graduate Savanah Wise.

Wise is taking classes from Animation Mentor, which has artists and animators who worked for Disney, Dreamworks and Pixar as teachers/mentors. She is working on concepts in animations such as character design and scene design. She said that character design is helping her learn how to display characters emotions and scene design is helping her with perception and atmosphere.

Wise said she hopes to work with independent animation film developers and then maybe the big-name animation film developers.

The sculptors give a scholarship each year to a North Olympic Peninsula high school graduate who plans to major or minor in any visual art or enroll in an approved visual arts training course.
