Milestone: Sunbonnet Sue quilt raises $450 for colonial festival

The Northwest Colonial Festival and George Washington Society announced last week that the patriotic quilt made by Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club of Sequim raised $450 for the 2018 Colonial Festival.

“A very heartfelt thanks to the quilters who made this possible,” festival organizers said.

Raffle tickets were sold on location at the George Washington Inn throughout the 10-day Washington Lavender Festival in July, as well as the four-day Northwest Colonial Festival in August.

The winner of this quilt was Jennifer Haase, a teacher from Bainbridge Island.

Haase said she has a deep love for American history and is looking forward to displaying the quilt at her school throughout this coming school year.

As a bonus, she is arranging for George and Martha Washington re-enactors to come and visit her classroom this year.

The quilt was made by Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club, a group of more than 200 quilters who share their love of quilts and their community by donating their work to others. The pattern features “Americana” patterns and symbols from American heritage.
