Emmalene Anne Madsen, a Western Washington University student and daughter of Steven and Pamela Madsen of Sequim, recently received the $2,000 Sarah Ann Wirth Scholarship in East Asian Studies and History for the 2018-2019 academic year.

The scholarship is awarded to students majoring or minoring in East Asian Studies or History.

Madsen graduated from Gig Harbor High School in 2017 and is majoring in Chinese and East Asian studies. She plans to graduate from Western in 2020.
