Milestones: Soroptimists bestow awards

Soroptimist International of Sequim presents its 2016 Continuing Education Scholarship to Cathleen O’Connell. O’Connell, while battling mental health challenges and confronting the obstacles that are encountered with her diagnosis, is well on her way to receiving her bachelor’s degree in business management. She presently holds an associate degree and is in the bachelor’s program at Peninsula Community College, crediting much of her success to the support of her son.

Soroptimist International of Sequim also presents its 2016 Vocational-Technical Award Scholarship to Anika Helseth. Helseth is a volunteer firefighter and EMT and just completed a rigorous and demanding training course at the North Bend Fire Academy. This talented young woman is a certified diesel mechanic, a mother of twin boys and is a major candidate for employment with Sequim’s fire department.
