Next Green Thumb event explores world of honeybees

At the next Green Thumb Garden Tips event, Meg Depew of Sequim Bee Farm will highlight the significant role of honeybees and discuss specific tactics that a home gardener can employ to support their local honey bee colonies.

She will present at noon on Thursday, April 12, in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Depew and her husband Bud practice sustainable beekeeping and provide our community with local, all-natural honey and bee products through the Sequim Bee Farm.

Her presentation will illustrate beekeeping in a historical context, the workings of a modern bee farm, and the challenges facing the honeybee.

A beekeeper for more than 15 years, Depew is a master beekeeper candidate with the state of Washington. She’s been active in the local bee club, the North Olympic Peninsula Beekeepers Association, serving on the board for the last four years.

The presentation is sponsored by the Clallam County Master Gardeners. For more information, call 360-565-2679.
